Virtual City Street Conversations

Split-flap information display

Two of our founding members - Nicolas Marichal and Jill Mathieu - got their hands on this amazing Passenger Information Display - or as we like to call it a cool-ass-split-flap -thing.

Who isn’t familiar with the big black information boards in Belgian's main train stations? And who doesn't love that well-know sound of the panels rotating when the train information gets updated? Unfortunately most of these PID's got replaced bij LED screens but luckily one of them found its way to Urban Republic.

The goal of this project is to create a virtual conversation between strangers passing on the street. Or at least a virtual spark by allowing people to send messages to our PID.

Want & Need List:

* electrician to install the damn thing (preferably one with muscles)

* software genius to make the virtual conversations possible

* word-lovers to write fun, short messages to inspire and activate passers-by

* or hard cash to pay for the previous
